How to Use the Error Log in PqW
Master the quotes error log to effectively troubleshoot issues and enhance your workflow efficiency.
Introduction
The Error Log in StrataVAR PqW is a history-tracking feature that records system-generated errors, warnings, and operational issues related to a record (such as a Quote).
It helps users identify and troubleshoot issues that occur during quote-related operations such as: Export Quote, Import BoM, Processing calculations, Sales Order creation, and Approval submission.
Whenever an operation fails or encounters validation issues, the system automatically records the event in the Error Log.
This article explains:
- Where to find the Error Log
- How to interpret log entries
- Common error scenarios
- What actions to take
Where to Find the Error Log
The Error Log is available directly from the Quote record.
Navigation Path
Step 1: Open Quote
- Open the required Quote either from Quotes List view or directly searching in the search bar if Quote number is known.

Step 2: Open Error Log
- Click on the Error Log tab in Quote Details page to go to the logs.

- The Logs section will display recorded entries

- The log grid displays all recorded errors related to that quote.
Understanding the Error Log Grid
Each row in the log represents a system-recorded operation event.
The following columns are visible in the log record in default setting-

- Log Name: It is a unique log identifier (e.g., L-0003733) with a hyperlink. Clicking this link opens the detailed log record.

- Operation: Indicates the process during which the error occurred. Examples: Export Quote, BoM import, Create Sales order etc
- Root Record: The primary object related to the operation (usually the Quote ID). Using hyperlink you can navigate
- Related Record: Associated record impacted by the operation.
- Error Message: Displays the system-generated error message.
- Proposed Correction: Where applicable, the system may suggest corrective guidance.
Understanding this data helps you identify the reason for failure and use the suggested corrective measures to resolve or mitigate the future errors.
Example Scenario: Export Quote Error
In the screenshot provided, multiple log entries show:
Operation: Export Quote
Error Message: “ There are undefined items and the prices can be incomplete.”
What This Means:
Some items in the quote may:
- Have undefined item types
- Be missing mandatory configuration
- Contain incomplete pricing data
Because of this, the Export process failed.
How to Troubleshoot Using the Error Log
Step 1: Identify the Operation
- Check which process failed (Export, Import, Sales Order, etc.).
Step 2: Read the Error Message Carefully
Error messages usually indicate missing fields, invalid configurations, pricing inconsistencies etc
Step 3: Open the Quote in Edit Mode
- Navigate to: Edit Quote → Review affected items
-
Look for:
- Items marked as “Undefined”
- Missing pricing values
- Invalid margins
- Incomplete configurations
Step 4: Correct the Issue
- Make necessary adjustments such as defining item types, adjusting prices, recalculations etc
Step 5: Retry the Operation
- After correction, you can reattempt the operations - such as exports, recreate sales order etc.
If the issue is resolved, no new log entry will be created.
Error Log Grid – Available Actions
The Error Log grid provides the following quick actions to help analyze and manage log records:
- Global Search – Search log entries using any keyword (log ID, error message, operation, record ID, etc.).
- Download (Export) – Export log records in Excel format for analysis or sharing.
- Add (+) – Manually add a new log record, if required.
- Mail – Send a feature request or notify the StrataVAR team regarding an issue.
- Reload – Refresh the log data to display the latest entries.
- Expand / Collapse View – Toggle between compact and detailed row view.
- Admin Settings – Access administrative configuration options (role-based access).

When to Escalate
If:
- The error message is unclear
- The issue persists after correction
- The operation repeatedly fails
You should:
- Open the Log record (click Log Name)
- Capture the full error details
- Share the Log ID with the StrataVAR support team
- The Log ID allows faster backend traceability.
Important Notes
- The Error Log does not delete or modify quote data. It only records operational events.
- Multiple log entries may appear if the same operation is attempted repeatedly.
- Clearing an error in the quote does not remove historical log records.
- The log serves as an audit and troubleshooting history.
Best Practices
- Always review logs after a failed export or submission.
- Avoid repeated retries without checking the error message.
- Resolve root cause before reprocessing.
- Admin users should periodically monitor logs for recurring patterns.
Conclusion
The Error Log in PqW is a diagnostic tool that provides transparency into system operations and failures. By understanding how to read and interpret log entries, users can quickly resolve issues and ensure smooth quote processing.
Instead of guessing why an operation failed, the Error Log gives you structured insight into:
- What failed
- When it failed
- Why it failed
Used correctly, it reduces troubleshooting time and prevents repetitive errors.
