Introduction

Pricing in StrataVAR Partner Quoting Workspace (PqW) is applied automatically during BoM import and quote creation using a structured hierarchy of pricing rules. These rules ensure pricing consistency, reduce manual effort, and enforce organizational pricing policies across all quotes.

This article explains:

  • Where pricing comes from
  • Which pricing rules are evaluated
  • The priority order in which discounts and margins are applied
  • How pricing is configured at supplier, account, and global levels

Understanding this logic is essential before making any manual pricing changes in Edit Quote.

Where Pricing Fits in the Quote Lifecycle

Pricing rules are evaluated and applied:

  • During BoM import
  • When a Customer Quote is created
  • Before the quote is opened in Edit Quote

Once applied, pricing values appear directly in the Edit Quote grid and can later be reviewed or manually adjusted if required.

Pricing Rule Hierarchy in PqW

PqW supports three levels of pricing configuration, evaluated in a strict priority order.
By default, only one pricing rule applies per item, based on the first match found.

Pricing Priority Order

  • Supplier-Level Pricing (highest priority)
  • Account-Level Pricing (2nd priority)
  • Global Pricing Configuration (fallback)

If a pricing rule is applied at a higher level, all lower levels are skipped.

Supplier-Level Pricing (Highest Priority)

Supplier-level pricing refers to discounts or margins provided directly by vendors, such as Cisco, Ingram, TDSynnex etc.

How Supplier Pricing Works

  • Supplier discounts are applied automatically during BoM import
  • If supplier pricing exists, no account or global pricing is evaluated
  • Supplier pricing typically reflects vendor-authorized discounts or programs

This ensures vendor-provided pricing always takes precedence.

Account-Level Pricing Configuration

Account-level pricing allows you to define customer-specific discounts or margins that apply when supplier pricing is not available.

When Account-Level Pricing Is Used

Account pricing is applied when:

  • No supplier-level pricing exists
  • Special pricing has been negotiated for a specific customer

Common Use Cases

  • Strategic or preferred customers
  • Contractual pricing agreements
  • Fixed-margin or fixed-discount customers

Step By Step Configuration of Account Level Pricing

You can access Account level pricing and discount configuration from Salesforce using main navigation bar.

  • Go to the Account details page for the required account

  • In Account Defaults section, you can configure the discounts and margin fields with editing option as shown and click on save.

Global Pricing Configuration (Organization-Level)

Global pricing configuration defines default discounts and margins applied when neither supplier-level nor account-level pricing exists.

These settings ensure that every quote follows a baseline pricing model.

When Global Configuration Is Applied

Global pricing rules are applied only if:

  • No supplier pricing is available
  • No account-level pricing is configured

Global configuration always acts as a fallback, never an override.

Where to Configure Global Pricing (UI Navigation)

You can access global pricing configuration from Salesforce using main navigation bar.

  • Click the Configure tab directly (if available)
  • This opens the Organization Settings page where you can configure VAR, Customer discounts and margin values etc.

Pricing Sections in Organization Settings

Global pricing is configured under StrataVAR Configuration, which includes:

VAR Discounts (Global)

Defines default VAR-level discounts applied across all quotes. Examples include Hardware default discount, Service default discount etc

These values control how vendor list prices are reduced at the VAR level.

Customer Discounts (Global)

Defines default customer-facing discounts when no account-specific pricing exists. For example, Non-cisco discount, software default discount etc.

Margins (Global)

Defines default margin expectations used in pricing calculations when no higher-priority margin exists.

Margins influence:

  • Customer pricing
  • Profitability metrics shown in Edit Quote

How Pricing Rules Are Evaluated and Applied

When a BoM is imported and a quote is generated:

  • PqW checks for supplier-level pricing
  • If none exists, it checks for account-level pricing
  • If neither exists, global pricing configuration is applied

Important Rules

  • Only one pricing source is applied per item by default
  • Discounts are not stacked
  • Applying multiple discounts requires customized configuration

What Happens After Pricing Is Applied

Once pricing rules are applied:

  • Discounts and margins are visible in the Edit Quote grid
  • Pricing values become editable by users
  • The system does not automatically reapply pricing rules unless the quote is regenerated

At this point, users can decide whether manual adjustments are required.

Conclusion

Pricing in PqW follows a clear hierarchy and is governed with following rules.

  • Supplier pricing always takes precedence
  • Account pricing applies only when supplier pricing is absent
  • Global configuration acts as a fallback
  • Only one pricing rule applies per item by default
  • Manual changes override system-applied pricing

Next Steps

After understanding how pricing rules are applied, you can proceed to:

  • How to Adjust Item Pricing and Margins
(Inline editing, bulk operations, Set / Multiply / Divide / Increment)

These next steps focus on manual pricing control inside Edit Quote, after automatic pricing has been applied.
