Introduction

The Summarize tab in Edit Quote allows you to create a summary quote by grouping selected quote items into one or more packages. This is commonly used to present a simplified, customer-friendly version of a quote while retaining detailed line items in the background.

A summary quote can be created automatically through Quote detail page or manually through console, giving you control over which items are included and how they are packaged.

What Is a Summary Quote?

A summary quote consolidates selected quote items into packages and calculates pricing, discounts, and margins at the package level.

Unlike an automatic summary, a manual summary quote lets you explicitly choose:

  • Which items to include
  • How items are grouped into packages
  • How the summarized pricing is presented

PqW supports two types of summary quotes:

  • Standard (Automatic) Summary Quote
  • Manual Summary Quote

Prerequisite

Before creating a summary quote, ensure that:

  • The required quote items are already added to the quote
  • You understand how items should be grouped for customer presentation

Standard (Automatic) Summary Quote

A standard summary quote is automatically generated by the system. It summarizes all quote items using system-defined grouping rules and does not require manual package creation.

This option is ideal when you want a quick, high-level summary without customizing packages.

Creating and Viewing a Standard (Automatic) Summary Quote

Step 1: Open the Quote in Edit Mode

  • Open the required quote from Quote list.

  • Select Summary Quote from Action dropdown to open Summary Creation window.

Step 2: Create Auto Summary Quote

  • In the Summary window, you can see the original quote name and Auto Summary button as shown below.

  • Click on Auto Summary button to view generate a quote summary with default settings.

  • At this stage, the system automatically treats all quote items as part of the summary. You can identify from Quote type whether it is standard quote or summary quote

Step 3: Use the Standard Summary for Review or Navigation

From the Summarize tab, you can:

  • Review overall pricing and margins
  • Navigate back to Edit Quote for changes
  • Proceed to export or print actions (based on permissions)
  • Any changes made later in Edit Quote are automatically reflected when you return to the Summarize tab.

Manual Summary Quote

A manual summary quote allows you to explicitly control which quote items are included and how they are grouped into packages. This is useful for customer-specific or solution-based presentations.

Accessing the Summarize Tab in PqW Console

  • Open the quote in PqW Console from Quote details tab with -Copy BoMs to Quote or Edit Quote
  • From the top navigation bar, click Summarize.

The Summarize tab displays:

  • A summary totals section at the top
  • The quote grid with selectable items
  • Package-related actions

Understanding the Summary Totals Section

At the top of the Summarize tab, the summary panel displays calculated values based on the currently selected quote items:

  • Total List Price
  • Customer Total Price
  • VAR Total Cost
  • VAR Total Profit
  • Customer Discount
  • VAR Discount
  • Total Profit + VIP
  • Selected Quote Items

These values update dynamically as you select or deselect quote items in the grid.

Step-By- Step Process

Step 1: Select Quote Items

  • In the quote grid, select the checkbox for each quote item or box to be included in the summary.
  • The Selected Quote Items count updates in the summary panel.

Step 2: Assign a Package

In the Set Package field, from dropdown:

  • Either select from pre-existing package
  • Or Enter new package name as necessary
  • Click on Update Selected Items

An Edit Package window opens.

Step 3: Review and Edit the Package

In the Edit Package window:

  • Each row represents a quote item included in the package
  • Review the included items for accuracy

Actions available:

  • Enter or update the Package Description
  • Review item-level pricing contributing to the package
  • Click Save to confirm the package configuration.

*Step 4: Save the Summary Configuration

  • Return to the Summarize tab.
  • Click Save to store the summary setup.

Step 5: View the Summary Quote

  • On saving, a new package with selected quote items is reflected in quote summary.

Once created:

  • Open Quote details page and click on Summary Quote to open Summary creation window.
  • Click on Create Summary button to create Summary quote

  • A new summary quote is generated as seen in screenshot. Click on Summary quote hyperlink to view Summary quote.

Working with Packages

  • A quote can contain multiple packages
  • Items can be reassigned between packages using the Set Package field
  • Packages control how items are rolled up in the summary quote
  • Common package examples:
    • Maintenance
    • Professional Services

Available Actions in the Summarize Tab

From the toolbar, you can:

  • Save summary configurations
  • View summarized pricing
  • Navigate back to Edit Quote
  • Export or print summarized views (based on permissions)

Things to Note

  • Summary quotes affect presentation, not underlying quote items
  • Pricing and margins are calculated based on included items
  • Inline editing of quantities or pricing should be completed before summarization
  • Grouping and box structure from Edit Quote is respected during summarization

Conclusion

The Summarize tab enables you to convert detailed quotes into clear, package-based summary quotes for customer presentation. By manually selecting items and defining packages, you maintain full control over how pricing and value are communicated—without losing underlying detail.

Used effectively, summary quotes simplify complex configurations, improve readability, and support faster customer decision-making.

Next Steps

After creating a summary quote, you can:

  • Review or refine item pricing in Edit Quote
  • Adjust package composition if requirements change
  • Export or print the summary quote for customer sharing
  • Proceed with downstream quoting or order workflows
